AMS Titanium Specifications Updated

Nimonik Team

Modified:

Recently a series of Aerospace Material Specs have been revised.  These updated AMS Titanium Specifications all reflect a major review of these documents by the SAE AMS G Committee on Titanium and Refractory Metals.  We’ll review some of the issues the committee addressed in these new updates.  Then we’ll list the specifications affected.

Many of these specs have been affected by an update to restrict material to the sizes of the mechanical property tables.  For some, vacuum is now required in the first consumable electrode melt.  And agreement on mechanical property values on material outside specifications ranges is added.  The report paragraph in many of these specs has also been revised.  For some, the hydrogen content in a specific table has been revised to match that of AMS-4965.  Or the hydrogen sample mass has been aligned with ASTM-E1447.  And reference to AS-6279 is added as well.

As the committee reviewed each spec to see if any of the above affected the content, other areas of concern were found.  So some of the items above may not be applicable, but other updates were made.  You will likely see change bars in the margin of the spec you use to identify the revisions.  In certain cases, the change bars from the previous edition are maintained where the previous correction is of particular note.

Here are the AMS Titanium specifications that have been updated so far this year:
