3.1.10 Document Descriptions (Abstracts)

Definition

A description (an abstract) is a brief summary of a document’s text. Its purpose is to explain what the document is about and to help determine its relevance.

Current coverage

Most descriptions for documents that are added to the library are generated using AI. Many documents that were already in the library have descriptions manually prepared by our team. We are now using AI to generate descriptions for the remaining documents, and most documents in the library now have descriptions.

Amending-only documents instead have a standard text that explains what an amending-only document is and how to receive actions about changes to the document.

We do not provide descriptions for

  • Documents where the text is not publicly available.
  • Non-essential documents where AI tools cannot generate descriptions due to technical or copyright constraints (e.g., text length, availability of full text).

Language

Nimonik offers descriptions in English, French and Chinese languages, and is now using AI to translate descriptions into most local languages.

Quality of AI descriptions and feedback

AI-generated descriptions come with a disclaimer, such as “This abstract was generated by artificial intelligence on [date]”. While we regularly monitor the quality of these descriptions, you should verify any information that you use to make decisions.

We would very much appreciate receiving your feedback at ai@nimonik.com.
